General objective

Increasing the resilience of vulnerable families by improving their access to opportunities to earn a living and increasing their household income.

Specific objective

Increasing the resilience of particularly vulnerable families by improving their access to opportunities for employment or start-up of micro-enterprises through vocational training and provision of equipment and materials.

Expected results

1. Improved vocational skills: 60 vulnerable women and 88 vulnerable men will acquire technical know-how in a variety of sectors, improving their opportunities to find employment or start a micro-enterprise.
2. Development of micro-enterprises: 148 people will receive the tools they need to start their own business, helping them achieve economic independence and reducing their dependence on assistance. Development of micro-enterprises: 148 people will receive the tools they need to start their own business, helping them achieve economic independence and reducing their dependence on assistance.

The project is set in the context of a severe humanitarian crisis. Over a decade of war has resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of civilians, forcing over 4 million people out of their homes. The project focuses on the Aden governorate, in communities and camps for displaced persons in the Aburqiah and Dar Sa’ad districts.

According to a survey conducted in Aden, 51% of vulnerable families depend on humanitarian assistance for food, while 39% of these families have no source of income at all, including a significant percentage of households headed by women (57%). The barriers to economic independence include high unemployment rates, inflation, and the lack of professional certificates and opportunities to access loans.

The project aims to improve these households’ living conditions through:

  • Vocational training in fields such as mobile phone repair, incense production and confectionary.
  • Supplying tools for starting micro-enterprises.
  • Campaigns promoting awareness of the importance of education, management of the family budget and prevention of malnutrition.

Cost of the action

110,062 CHF

Beneficiaries

The project aims to reach 60 women and 88 men benefiting directly from training and the supply of equipment as well as 1,820 people (892 women and 928 men) benefiting directly from awareness campaigns.
