Improving the psychological well-being of Ukrainian refugees in Slovakia.
Offering professional psychological assistance to particularly vulnerable refugees from Ukraine through counselling sessions, both in person and remote (online or over the telephone).
A team of experts is providing psychological assistance to Ukrainian refugees in the Slovakian town of Košice and at the Vyšné Nemecké border crossing.
About the project
Since the conflict began, hundreds of thousands of civilians fleeing the war have found refuge in bordering nations. As of 14 July, 600,000 refugees had crossed the border into Slovakia, bringing with them the terrible trauma of war: they have lost friends and family members, they have had to abandon their homes, reduced to rubble, and they have been in situations in which their lives were at risk, only to find themselves in a foreign land, overcome by fear and insecurity, often without food or resources.
Psychological support is offered in collaboration with experts from the Slovakian NGO IPčko, which provides complete social and psychological assistance services at the border crossings (Vyšné Nemecké, Ubľa, Veľké Slemence) and in the towns where the most refugees have gathered (Michalovce and Košice ), in temporary shelters and state-run facilities, as well as in various other parts of the country where no such services are provided.
