About the project

The multisectoral project intervenes in several areas. First, it will seek to strengthen the mechanism for evacuation, reception and initial legal and psychological support for people at high risk, with the distribution of life-saving goods in the districts of Zaporizky, Vasylivsky and Polohivsky. This includes: the contribution of a rescue team equipped with protective equipment and vehicles suitable for transporting people with disabilities or reduced mobility; the setting up of temporary reception points in the city of Zaporizhzhia; the provision of psychosocial support; and the distribution of life-saving goods in coordination with local authorities.

In addition, the project will ensure the full operation of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Clinical Children’s Hospital, a hospital facility for paediatric care, maternal and child health and mental health in the Zaporizhzhia oblast, with specific medical equipment.

Healthcare and psychological support will be provided to veterans, vulnerable people and families remaining near the front line.

Finally, the intervention will ensure access to safe, quality education, supplemented by recreational, artistic and psychosocial activities for children aged 6-17 – including internally displaced minors, children with disabilities, orphans and victims of violence – promoting their resilience, socialisation and trauma management. Given the proximity to the front line, the frequency of attacks and a significantly higher than average percentage of students attending school online, the regional government of Zaporizhzhia has promoted the construction of underground school facilities capable of ensuring continuity of education in protected environments, even in the event of missile attacks and radiation. The underground schools are equipped with autonomous water supply, electricity, ventilation, video surveillance and fire alarm systems.
