General objective

To contribute to socio-economic development in Tunisia, with a view to promoting employment, inclusion and integration of the most vulnerable groups at risk of marginalisation and irregular migration.

Specific objective

To increase opportunities for decent employment for young Tunisians in the tourism and craft sectors, strengthening their training skills and mechanisms for social protection and inclusion in the Jendouba region.

Expected results

1. Training provision in the tourism and crafts sectors is strengthened and better responds to the needs and potential of the sector for the creation of innovative, high-quality employment that promotes cultural and environmental heritage.

2. Employment and business creation opportunities in the tourism and crafts sectors for young people are strengthened.

3. The provision of social protection and inclusion mechanisms for vulnerable young Tunisians against the risks of deviance and irregular migration is strengthened.

About the project

The InTRa project is being implemented in the towns of Jendouba, Ain Draham and Tabarka.

The strategy proposed by InTRA is based on an integrated and multi-sectoral approach that links the guidance of young people at risk of marginalisation, their training and the creation of decent employment in the short term, to the activation of social protection and inclusion mechanisms in the medium and longer term, providing valid alternatives in the area to irregular migration and promoting inclusion at the local level through guidance, job placement and business creation.

Specifically, InTRA promotes the enhancement of cultural heritage in the crafts and tourism sectors through technical and on-the-job training and by introducing innovations through new trades in the craft supply chains and ecotourism activities.

InTRA facilitates connections between young people and businesses in the sector (Job Open Days) and supports the definition of businesses and the creation of new start-ups in the fields of crafts and ecotourism.

InTRA strengthens the technical skills and protection services offered by the regional structures of the Youth Directorate (Maison de Jeunes, youth complexes and mobile entertainment units), in order to improve the inclusion of young people in their local communities and raise their awareness of the risks of irregular migration. On the other hand, it organises an awareness campaign in Tunisia aimed at both young people and local communities and institutions, the results of which will also be disseminated in Italy.

The topics addressed will focus on the positive contribution of young people to the development of their territory and the prevention of irregular migration.
